The Sandhills Writers Conference

The Sandhills Writers Conference is not just a Southern thing anymore, but a gathering of authors, agents, editors and songwriters with diverse perspectives and cultural backgrounds from all over the country. Started in 1975, the Sandhills Writers Conference is hosted each spring in Augusta, Georgia, by Augusta State University. Today the conference is considered the Southeast's most prestigious conference for writers of fiction, poetry, non-fiction, and children's literature.

The Sandhills Writers Conference is open to all persons interested in writing. Activities include talks on the writer's craft, advice from regional and national editors and agents, and manuscript consultations. Prizes in the various writing genres are awarded. The 2009 conference is scheduled for March 18-21 with a guest appearance by 2001 U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins on March 18. This event is co-sponsored by ASU's Life of the Mind series.

Award-winning poet Anthony Kellman, Professor of Creative Writing in the Department of Communications and Professional Writing at ASU, is director of the Sandhills Writers Conference.
